For almost a decade I’ve been using a wallet that I purchased from Levenger. The Pocket Briefcase is a large leather folio that allows me to keep credit cards, a license and some cash on one side and a number of the company’s “pocket cards” in the other. It’s a great wallet, and it has served me quite well. Increasingly, however, it has been moving toward being obsolete. You see, the pocket cards that it’s designed to hold made perfect sense for me BiP (Before iPhone). They let me jot quick notes throughout the day. Now that I carry my iPhone everywhere, if I want to jot a quick note I pull out my iPhone, take or record a note and put it right into Evernote. It’s faster, more convenient, and it guarantees that I won’t jot something down and then lose it 5 minutes later. The problem is, now that I don’t use the index cards all that often, my old wallet is just big, bulky and relatively unused.
Last year I stumbled across the Flipside wallet. It is a locking, RFID shielded bi-fold plastic wallet that’s more compact than a traditional leather wallet and keeps your credit cards safe from criminals who might otherwise try to rip you off. I almost bought one at the time, but for some reason never got around to it.
Now, the company is releasing version 2 of the Flipside wallet. Flipside 2X is “revamped, reinforced, re-imagined”. It provides RFID shielding so unscrupulous individuals can’t scan your pocket and grab your information. It features a “completely reinforced design” so that it’s stronger than ever. It offers a new third card slot so that you can carry a total of seven different cards and some cash. It now also has a detachable clip so that you can keep his discards receipts and a few dollars on the outside of the sidewall at where they can be easily grabbed. Finally, a new internal cash clip makes it easy to keep a number of different bills safe inside the Flipside wallet.
As they explain:
The Flipside 2 hardshell wallet design, which we launched last summer, quickly grew a large fanbase and spread like a wildfire. The streamlined
organization, RFID shielding ability, and intriguing appearance instantly won over our fans. But we believe every product that is great can always be better. Based on our own observations, as well as customer feedback, we have revamped the
popular Flipside 2 design. It’s always difficult to follow up on a hit design, but we believe we have done it with flying colors; the FLIPSIDE 2X wallet is our masterpiece!
Here are the FLIPSIDE 2X features in the company’s words:
-Completely reinforced hard-shell design, now made from a special Polycarbonate – one of the strongest plastics on earth
-Steel reinforced hinge for tighter locking
-NEW individual card slot on the cash side of the wallet allows fast access of a single card such as a driver’s license, so that 7 cards can now be stored in 3 different slots (3+3+1)
-NEW cash clip allows easier placement of up to 12 bills in the cash compartment
-Reinforced locking mechanism/button is stronger and smoother to operate
-NEW detachable external clip is designed to hold 3-4 business cards, receipts, and more
-Available in 4 colors: Stealth, Flare, Avalanche, and NEW Impulse
There’s no question that this wallet won’t appeal to everyone. If you like refined leather goods, then this isn’t the wallet for you. If you want to carry around 40 different credit cards and shopping cards along with a bunch of notes, then this isn’t the wallet for you. If, however, you want a wallet that’s relatively small and compact, helps keep you organized, limits your moving toward “wallet creep”, and want the convenience of a wallet that springs open with the touch of a finger while keeping you more protected from criminals, then the Flipside wallet may well be the wallet for you.
Here’s a quick video of it in action.
The new Flipside wallet is available in four different colors and has an MSRP of $39.95. It’s being announced today and is available right now. We have one on the way to us already, and we are looking forward to reviewing it here on the site!
